To provide a packing method for a steel product for assuring identity between a slip stuck to the packed steel product carrying product information and the steel product, and a system for the method.

The packing system 10 for the steel product includes an IC tag 12 attached to the steel product 13 having a first slip 11 carrying the product information stuck to it, a product information writing means 16 for writing the whole or a part of the product information on the IC tag 12 via wireless communication before or after the tag 12 is attached to the product 13, a product information reading means 21 for reading the product information via the tag 12, and a collating means 22 for detecting whether data obtained by the means 21 substantially coincides with data on a second slip 18 stuck to the packed product 13. The packing method for the steel product comprises a step of packing the first slip 11 and the IC tag 12 together with the steel product 13.
