PURPOSE: To ensure that a type on a type bar is hardly damaged even when the type bar is erroneously impacted against a paper bail, by providing a shock- absorbing material covering a part or the entire surface of the paper bail.

CONSTITUTION: Felts 23a, 23b as a shock-absorbing material are provided on both faces of a lower-end paper bail 13, namely, on the face of the paper bail 13 brought into contact with a typewriting paper and the face on the opposite side. Accordingly, even when the type bar is erroneously impacted against the paper bail 13 during typewriting, the shocks exerted on the type of the type bar and the paper bail 13 by the impact are sufficiently absorbed by the felts 23a, 23b. Therefore, the type of the type bar is prevented from being deformed or collapsing.
