PURPOSE: To stably convey a paper sheet without causing creases in the sheet and miniaturize the conveyor by providing a drive control means for controlling an intermediate roller so that it may stop its drive immediately after a register roller starting its drive.
CONSTITUTION: A paper sheet P1 is conveyed up to the nip of a register roller 22 by an intermediate roller 21 which makes a rotational drive by the engagement of an intermediate clutch. The paper sheet P1 is conveyed to a transfer position by a transfer unit 15 by the register clutch making engagement and the register roller 22 starting its rotation after elapse of a specified time of a a register sensor 33 detecting the front end of the paper sheet P1. On the other hand, the intermediate clutch disengages in synchronization with the engagement of the register clutch. Then, when the rear end of the paper sheet P1 passes the register sensor 33, the register sensor 33 turns off and the register roller 22 stops by the register clutch disengaging after elapse of a specified time. Thus, the paper sheet P1 can be prevented from generating creases.
