PURPOSE: To realize reliable separated paper feeding at all times in a paper feeding device provided with a pickup roller abutting against a pressurizing plate via a paper sheet, by providing a low friction part and a high friction part in an abutting part of the pressurizing plate against the paper sheet, and making the abutting parts of the pressurizing plate changeable.

CONSTITUTION: In a paper feeding device of a facsimile device and the like, a high friction part 20 made of a material whose surface is roughened and the like and having a high friction coefficient and a low friction part 21 made of resin, metal and the like and having a low friction coefficient are provided in a flat part 2a of a pressurizing plate 2 abutting against a pickup roller 1 via paper sheets P1, P2. For feeding of thin paper with low stiffness, the high friction part 20 is opposed to the pickup roller 1 to apply sufficient pressurizing force (frictional force) so as to realize smooth paper feeding. For feeding of thick paper, the pressurizing plate 2 is horizontally moved forward to oppose the low friction part 21 to the pickup roller 1. Accordingly, resistant force to the thick paper at the time of feeding is decreased so as to prevent failure of paper feeding.
