PURPOSE: To miniaturize a device and make it perform paper winding so smoothly, by detecting a quantity of the paper conveyed for printing by a printer, and on the basis of the result, controlling the paper winding.

CONSTITUTION: Paper 5 is conveyed, making it shift in the A direction, and printing (unillustrated herein) takes place in the midway, then this paper 5 is wound on a reel 14 which rotates around a shaft 22 by a pulse motor 20 via gears 21 and 23. In the point midway in a conveying passage of the paper 5, ther is provided with a detecting part 29 consisting of a rotary disc 24 and a photosensor 25, the conveyed quantity of the paper 5 is detected. This conveyed quantity is inputted into a central processing unit 27, driving the pulse motor 20 via a drive circuit 28. The paper is made to be wound on the reel 14 till its conveyed quantity reached to an extent commensurate to a print ing new line. This operation should be done intermittently at each printing new line. With this constitution, regardless of an increase in the outer diameter of a reel roll, the paper is windable smoothly with a miniature structure.
