To provide a paper machine and a method for papermaking having high drainage efficiency.

The paper machine is designed to retain a paper stock liquid (1a) jetted from a headbox (2) in a layer state, remove moisture while running the paper stock layer (1) and carry out papermaking. In the paper machine, a part for removing the moisture is provided with a steam type heating apparatus (6) for heating the paper stock in order to accelerate the moisture removal and a suction apparatus (7) for sucking steam on the side opposite to the steam type heating apparatus (6) sandwiching the paper stock layer (1) therebetween. The downstream side of the steam type heating apparatus (6) and the suction apparatus (7) is provided with a heating apparatus (20) for heating the paper stock layer (1) with dry air and a suction apparatus (9) for sucking heated air on the side opposite to the heating apparatus (20) sandwiching the paper stock layer (1) therebetween. Thereby, the moisture is removed while running the paper stock layer to carry out the papermaking.
