Paper sheets are aligned by one directional rotation of a motor M, and carried by the other direction rotation thereof. A torque limiter 188 is provided in a driving system from a driving means to an aligning means. The torque limiter shuts off transmission of driving force for driving a carrying means to the aligning means. Carrying to an aligning part provided with the aligning means is performed by downward carrying, and the paper sheets are received by a leading end stopper 201, aligned by the aligning means, and thereafter, the paper sheets are carried in the horizontal direction by the carrying means for discharge from the aligning part.
