PURPOSE: To make it possible to use a sheet to article for sweeping by enhancing strength of paper in impregnating in a water-containing organic solvent and providing moderate hydrolytic property to the paper.
CONSTITUTION: A sheet obtained by making a pulp into paper using a water- insoluble swelling carboxymethyll cellulose alkali metal salt as a binder is impregnated into a water-containing organic solvent containing a polyvalent metal ion such as alkaline earth metal, nickel or iron. Thereby an alkali metal part of carboxymethyl group is replaced with these ions to form a crosslinked complex. When the sheet is treated thus, hydrophilic properties of the binder itself used is lowered and paper strength in impregnating in a water-containing organic solvent is enhanced, compared with untreated paper and further, proper hydrolytic proper is provided to the sheet.
