To obtain a paper-treating agent not generating formaldehyde on impregnating with a paper and an excellent dimensionally stabilizing effect even by a small amount by preparing an aqueous solution of an alcoholic compound having cyclohexane ring.
This paper-treating agent is obtained by dissolving an alcoholic compound having cyclohexane ring and expressed by the formula [(n) is 0-3; R1 to R11 are each H, hydroxyl or an alkyl], e.g. a cyclohexane dimethanol compound or cyclohexane diol compound with water to prepare its weight concentration as 0.1-70 wt.% range. The above treating agent may be used by an internally adding method, but preferably is impregnated by 0.5-20 wt.% based on the weight of the paper and its solid component to the paper, then the paper is dried and/or heat-treated at 50-120°C for 10 sec to 15 min.
