Title:
PAPERMAKING STARCH
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH09291103
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

To obtain a cationic starch having a markedly improved retention in a paper layer, markedly improving paper strength, and reducing waste water load on a paper machine by heat-treating starch in the presence of a cationic polymer under specified conditions.

Starch is heat-treated by a dry process at 60-200°C for 10min to 5hr in the presence of 0.1-7 pts.wt., per 100 pts.wt. starch, cationic polymer. The type of the starting starch is not particularly limited. Although the type of the cationic group of the cationic polymer is not particularly limited, it is desirably a tert. amine or a quat. ammonium base. Examples of the cationic polymers used include polyaminoalkyl (meth)acrylates, polyaminomethylacrylamide, and chitosan.
