Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a paperweight for holding an opening state of a book, in which: reading is not disturbed; pages are turned with ease; and the paperweight can be used without occupying any large space irrelevant to a large or small size of the book.SOLUTION: Weights are connected to both ends of a flexible string, and a take-up mechanism, which takes up the string by means of a spring force, is provided for at least one of the weights. A lock mechanism which fixes a take-up length of the string and a release button therefor can be provided. A spread state of a book is retained by holding, with the string, upper or lower blank space portions of pages of the open book. The weights disposed on both sides are placed adjacently to both outer sides of the open book. The page can be turned without moving the weights by shifting a central portion of the string upwardly (when the upper blank space is held), turning a paper sheet while flexibly bending the paper sheet slightly downwardly, and inserting the turned paper sheet into a space disposed under the string.
