PURPOSE: To enable appropriate printing on a passbook without generating skew printing, line spacing errors of jamming by moving a printing head transversely and back and forth.
CONSTITUTION: A passbook 1 is fed on a feeding passage A by several clamp rollers 2 and guide plates 3. After the leading end of the passbook 1 is detected by a photo-sensor 4, the passbook is fed by a several-stop amount to a first printing position, when a feeding motor is stopped. A printing head 5 is fixed to a carrier frame 6, and is constantly held in a stand-by condition at a fixed position through detection of a home position by a photo-sensor. In response to an instruction for printing, a motor 7 is driven to rotate a ball screw 8, thereby printing transversely. With an instruction for line feeding being given, a motor 9 is driven to cause the head 5 to perform a line feeding by a predetermined number of line feeding steps through a belt 10, and transverse printing is conducted. With printing operation finished, the clamp rollers 2 are rotated reversely, thereby discharging the passbook 1.
