To provide a system capable of detecting the presence or absence of a passenger on a passenger conveyor with a high probability.
The passenger conveyor system includes a plurality of steps (21), a light-emitting part (12), a plurality of reflection parts (15), a light-receiving part (13), and a processing part (14). The steps are arranged endlessly in a longitudinal direction of the passenger conveyor, and move. The light-emitting part emits a beam above the steps. The reflection parts are disposed on both sides of the plurality of the steps, and by reflecting the beam emitted from the light-emitting part sequentially, direct the beam in the longitudinal direction in a given detection height range which is the range of the height interrupted by a human when he or she is lying on the steps. The light-receiving part, paired with the light-emitting part, receives the beam emitted from the light-emitting part and directed by the reflection parts. The processing part compares the intensity of the beam received by the light-receiving part with a given threshold.
