A conductor 20 for generating current variation by contact with a cleat 5K is provided on a portion neighborhood to a mounting part to a doorway floor 9 of the comb plate 14, and an abnormality detection means for detecting abnormality by detecting the current variation of the conductor 20 is provided. By the above constitution, when a step plate 5 is temporarily floated up, since the cleat 5K of the floated up tread 5 is contacted with the conductor 20, the conductor 20 is broken and shaved and the current is shut off or becomes unstable. Therefore, the current is detected by the abnormality detection means, the abnormality is reported or the operation is stopped. Thereby, inconvenience at a portion neighborhood to a distal end of the doorway floor 9 can be previously detected. As a result, damage of the comb plate 14 can be previously prevented.
