PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a user authentication apparatus that does not require a password.SOLUTION: A user authentication apparatus 1 used to authenticate a user of a numerical controller for a machine tool comprises: an acquisition part 11 for acquiring in advance a key use information in respect to a prescribed key input operation for an operation terminal of a numerical controller performed by a user having valid user credentials; and an authentication part 12 for determining whether an inspection object user is a user having valid user credentials based on the key use information for the key input operation performed by the inspection object user on the operation terminal and the key use information of the user having valid user credentials acquired by the acquisition part 11.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
