PURPOSE: To make the thickness of paste to be applied to a wall covering material substantially uniform by setting a section modulus of a doctor roll to a specific value or greater.

CONSTITUTION: A pasting machine for wallpaper has, in its main body, a plurality of rolls including a doctor roll 10 and a pasting roll 9, both being driven for rotation with the aid of a gear, and a paste channel 6 for retaining paste, and continuously applies the paste with the pasting roll 9 on the rear face of a sheet-like wall covering material introduced from the rear part of the main body. By regulating a relative gap between the pasting roll 9 and the doctor roll 10 disposed adjacently to the pasting roll 9, the paste to be stuck to the pasting roll 9 is regulated. Also, a section modulus of the doctor roll 10 is set to at least 20,000mm4. In such a way, the extent of deflection of the doctor roll 10 due to a load of the paste is reduced, and the relative gap between the pasting roll 9 and the doctor roll 10 can be kept substantially constant. Therefore, it becomes possible to make the thickness of the paste to be applied on the rear face of the wall covering material substantially uniform throughout the entire area of the rear face of the wall covering material.
