PURPOSE: To recognize pattern accurately, by converting the pattern to be recognized by a multiple image converting filter, and comparing this pattern with a reference pattern.
CONSTITUTION: The pattern to be recognized which is read out from a picture converting element 5 by a parallel luminous flux is subjected to Fourier conversion by a large convex lens 22 and is filtered by a multiple image converting filter 23 arranged on this Fourier conversion face and is subjected to Fourier reverse conversion by a convex lens 24. These output images are detected by a photoelectric detector 25. The video signal from the photoelectric detector 25 is digitized and is sent to an MPU 26. The MPU 26 performs the pattern discrimination of the output image and detects whether it coincides with a preliminarily determined output image.
