PURPOSE: To constitute and sew a pattern group which abounds in variety by displacing a line of the pattern not only on a straight line but also in the horizontal direction, and also, to transfer working cloth with high accuracy by changing the number of times of transfer in accordance with a set size with respect to the displacement quantity in the horizontal direction.

CONSTITUTION: The pattern sewing machine is provided with a forward/ backward feed motor 35 for driving to feed working cloth in the forward and the backward directions, a driving circuit 36 for driving the motor, a horizontal feed motor 37 for driving to feed the working cloth in the horizontal direction, and a driving circuit 38 for driving the motor. The right step or the left step shifts its pattern immediately after the input in the horizontal direction or the left. As for the displacement quantity in the horizontal direction, since the frequency of the transfer is changed in accordance with a size of the set pattern, the feed quantity in the horizontal direction of a feed dog and a transfer distance of the working cloth correspond linearly to each other, and the working cloth is transferred with high accuracy.
