Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide new peptides derived from a retrovirus of the HIV group having a specific amino acid sequence and useful in the detection of an antibody against a retrovirus relating to immune deficiency ans in AIDS vaccines or the like.
CONSTITUTION: These new immunologically active peptides are derived from a retrovirus of the human immunodeficiency virus(HIV) group and have about 15-50 consecutive amino acids selected from formula I (wherein X is C or S) or have about 15-35 consecutive amino acids selected from formula II and are useful as diagnostic drugs for detecting an antibody relating to immune deficiency such as acquired immuno-deficiency syndrome(AIDS), its prophylactic and therapeutic vaccines or the like. These peptides can be prepared not only by the expression by a recombinant DNA host cell with the use of the genetic recombination technology but also by the Merrifield peptide solid phase synthesis.
