Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a solid foamable compsn. improved in expandability, thermal foamability, and long term storage stability by compounding a thermoprocessible perfluoropolymer with a nucleating agent and a specific fluoropolyether.
CONSTITUTION: A thermoprocessible fluoropolymer (A) having a fluorine content of 60 wt.% or higher and a number average mol.wt. of 500,000-2,000,000, an org. or inorg. expanding and nucleating agent (B) having an m.p. higher than that of ingredient A, and 0.05-20 wt.% (based on ingredient A) fluoropolyether (C) comprising fluorooxyalkylene units selected from among units represented by formulas I to VII (these units being statistically distributed on the polymer chain), optionally contg. H or Cl, and having terminal neutral fluoroalkyl or perfluoroalkyl groups and a number average mol.wt. of 3,500 or lower are melt mixed and cooled, thus giving an unexpanded solid compsn. having a density lower than that of ingredient A by at most 7%.
