To provide a permanent magnet type rotary electric machine which prevents mechanical strength of a rotor from deteriorating, cools a permanent magnet, and prevents magnetic characteristics of the permanent magnet from deteriorating.
A flux barrier 22 is formed as a channel of liquid refrigerant for cooling a permanent magnet in the rotor core. In the surface of one end plate 17a facing the rotor core, a groove 29 for guiding the liquid refrigerant which is supplied through a refrigerant channel 25 formed in a rotating shaft 18 to the flux barrier 22 is formed in association with each insertion hole. In the other end plate 17b, an opening 30 for discharging the liquid refrigerant flowing through the flux barrier 22 to the outside of the rotor core is formed.
