To obtain a pharmaceutical composition suitable for topical treatment for preventing and/or curing rhinitis.
This pharmaceutical composition contains (a) at least one sympathomimetic agent, its physiologically acceptable salt, and its derivative suitable for topical application and having a vasoconstrictive effect and/or a detumescent effect on a mucous membrane; and (b) at least one of a glycosaminoglycan, preferably in an acidic form, its physiologically acceptable salt, and its derivative, especially hyaluronic acid and its salt, in such amounts that each of the components of the composition, as well as a combination thereof, produces pharmaceutical efficacy thereby. Dehydration and inflammatory irritation of a nasal mucous membrane caused by the sympathomimetic agent in the topical application of the pharmaceutical composition are avoidable by synergistically combined action of the glycosaminoglycan and the sympathomimetic agent, and detumescence and secretory inhibition of the mucous membrane in the naris are achieved at the same time, so that the rhinitis is effectively alleviated.
