Abstract:
PURPOSE: To produce a phenolic resin having an excellent curabiity and giving a cured article excellent in heat resistance, electrical properties, abrasion resistance, and chemical resistance by condensing a specific trifunctional arom. compd. with a phenolic compd. in a specified molar ratio.
CONSTITUTION: 1mol of a trifunctional compd. of the formula (wherein R1, R2, and R3 are each hydroxyl, halogen, or 1-3C alkoxy provided that R2 and R3 may combine together to represent an oxygen atom; and X1 and X2 are each H, halogen, or alkyl)(e.g. α,α,α'-trimethoxy-p-xylene) is reacted with 2-30mol of a phenolic compd. (e.g. phenol) to give a phenolic resin, which is highly reactive with a curative such as hexamethylenetetramine and hence can be molded at a high productivity and is suitable as a molding material, a friction material, etc.
