Abstract:
Phenylsulphonamide derivatives of the formula and the salts of these compounds with amines, alkali metal bases or alkaline earth metal bases or with quaternary ammonium bases have good pre- and post-emergence-selective herbicidal and growth-regulating properties. In this formula, R<1> denotes hydrogen, fluorine, chlorine, bromine, nitro, C1-C4-alkyl, C1-C4-alkylthio, C1-C4-alkoxy, trifluoromethyl, trifluoromethoxy, difluoromethoxy or C1-C4-alkoxycarbonyl, E denotes nitrogen or a methine group, Z denotes oxygen or sulphur, A denotes oxygen, sulphur, an -SO- or -SO2- bridge or a group n denotes the number one or zero, R<3> denotes hydrogen or C1-C4-alkyl, R<4> and R<5>, independently of one another, denote hydrogen or C1-C4-alkyl, R<6> denotes hydrogen, C1-C4-alkyl, C1-C4-alkoxy, halogen, trifluoromethyl, nitro, COOR<8> or halogen-substituted C1-C4-alkoxy, R<7> denotes hydrogen, fluorine, chlorine, bromine, C1-C4-alkyl or C1-C4-alkoxy, R<9> denotes C1-C6-alkyl, C3-C6-alkenyl, C3-C6-alkynyl, C2-C6-halogenoalkyl, C2-C6-alkoxyalkyl, benzyl, phenyl, a group -CHR<1><0>-COOR<1><1>, -CHR<1><0>-CN, -CHR<1><0>-CONR<1><2>R<1><3>, -(CH2)m-NR<1><2>R<1><3> or C1-C4-alkyl-, fluorine-, chlorine-, bromine-, nitro-, trifluoromethyl-, trifluoromethoxy- or C1-C4-alkoxy-substituted benzyl or phenyl M denotes a number from two to six, R<1><0> denotes hydrogen or C1-C4-alkyl, R<8> and R<1><1>, independently of one another, denote hydrogen, C1-C4-alkyl, C2-C4-alkenyl, C3-C4-alkynyl or C1-C4-alkyl substituted by C1-C4-alkoxy, fluorine, chlorine, bromine or phenyl, R<1><2> denotes hydrogen, C1-C4-alkyl, C2-C4-alkenyl or C3-C4-alkynyl, R<1><3> denotes hydrogen, C1-C4-alkyl, C2-C4-alkenyl, C3-C4-alkynyl, C1-C4-alkoxy, C3-C6-cycloalkyl, phenyl or benzyl, R<1><4> and R<1><5>, independently of one another, denote hydrogen or C1-C4-alkyl and X and Y, independently of one another, denote hydrogen, halogen, C1-C4-alkyl, C1-C4-halogenoalkyl, C1-C4-alkoxy, C1-C4-halogenoalkoxy, C1-C4-alkylthio, C1-C4-halogenoalkylthio, C2-C4-alkoxyalkyl, C3-C6-cycloalkyl or -NR<1><4>R<1><5>, with the proviso that neither of the radicals X and Y represents difluoromethoxy if the group Q represents
