NEW MATERIAL:A bis[2-(2-hydroxy-N-methylalkylamino)ethyl]phosphoric acid ester salt expressed by the formula (R is 8W20C alkyl; M is Na+, K+, NH4+ or triethanolamine ion).

EXAMPLE: Bis[2-(2-hydroxy-N-methyllaurylamino)ethyl]phosphate monosodium salt.

USE: A medicinal base and cosmetics, such as ointment base, skin cream, hair cream, hair treatment, foundation and cream, and pigment dispersing agent or thickener for paints and inks.

PREPARATION: Equivalent amounts of a 2-(2-hydroxy-N-methylalkylamino)ethanol and phosphorus oxychloride are reacted to carry out phosphorylation reaction. The former component in the same number of mol. as that described above is added to similarly carry out the reaction. The solvent is then removed to adjust the pH to 5W8 with an alkali and the resultant product is desalted.
