To provide a photoactive compound having polymerizable group, which has a large HTP, exhibits excellent compatibility with other polymerizable liquid crystal compounds and good solubility to organic solvent, and can be polymerized by heat and light in air.

The photoactive compound having polymerizable group is represented by formula (1) or (2): P1-Q1-(A1-Z1)m-X1-(Z1-A1)m-Q1-P2(1) or P1-Q1-(A1-Z1)m-X2 (2). For example, ring A1 is independently 1,4-cyclohexylene or 1,4-phenylene; Z1 is independently a single bond or -O-; m is independently an integer of 1 to 5; Q1 is independently 1-20C alkylene; X1 is a divalent group having chirality; X2 is a monovalent group having chirality, and P1 and P2 are polymerizable groups.
