Compounds of the formula (I): wherein: R1 is hydrogen or fluorine; R2 is hydrogen or hydroxy; R3 is hydrogen, hydroxy, fluorine, aminocarbonyl, methylaminocarbonyl, methoxycarbonyl or acetoxy; C and C both are asymmetric carbon atoms having * and ** the R absolute stereochemical configuration; with the limitation that at least one of R1 and R2 is hydrogen; or pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof are extremely potent inotropic agents.
