Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photocatalyst electrode which is large in photoelectric current value and enables the facilitation of water-splitting reaction by light with a high conversion efficiency.SOLUTION: A photocatalyst electrode for water-splitting comprises a p-type semiconductor layer, a functional layer, an n-type semiconductor layer, and a promoter for reactions, which are provided on a current collecting electrode in this order. The functional layer is composed of a semiconductor layer which satisfies the following expression (I): VBMp>VBMf (I) (where VBMp represents a potential [eV] at an upper end of a valence band of the p-type semiconductor layer with respect to a vacuum level; and VBMf represents a potential [eV] at an upper end of a valence band of the functional layer to the vacuum level).
