To provide a photocatalytic body capable of effectively demonstrating the catalytic performance of a photocatalyst to the irradiation quantity of light by activating the photocatalyst without reflecting ultraviolet ray, with which the photocatalystic body is irradiated, before reaching the photocatalyst or passing through the photocatalystic body to effectively demonstrate the catalytic performance.
A photocatalyst layer 2 containing the photocatalyst is formed on the surface of a base material 1 consisting essentially of magnesia. By this constitution, since the magnesia totally reflects ultraviolet ray out of visible ray, ultraviolet ray is reflected on the base material 1 without passing through the photocatalytic body and the reflected ultraviolet at functions on the photocatalyst of the photocatalytic layer 2.
