To obtain a photocatalytic deodorization body having high adsorbing ability and capable of efficiently utilizing even weak ultraviolet light because light energy spreads over the entire photocatalyst layer by providing a reflection plate and the photocatalyst layer and disposing an irregular reflection layer between the reflection plate and the photocatalyst layer.
A photocatalytic body 1 is composed of a reflection plate 2, a photocatalyst layer 3 and an irregular reflection layer 4 disposed between them. The reflection plate 2, the irregular reflection layer 4 and the photocatalyst layer 3 are kept in face-to-face adhesion. When the photocatalyst layer 3 is irradiated with light, the photocatalyst is excited to generate electrons and positive holes. Even if the energy of the light is not uniform, intense light energy passing through the photocatalyst layer 3 without being absorbed is efficiently reflected by the reflection plate 2 and the irregular reflection layer 4 and spreads over the entire photocatalyst layer 3. The entire layer 3 can be therefore activated.
