Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3252920
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain 4-chlorophthalic acid anhydride with high yield by irradiating phthalic acid anhydride and chlorine with light.
CONSTITUTION: Chlorine and phthalic acid anhydride in a vapor phase are sent to a reaction chamber and irradiated with light (preferably UV rays) to obtain chlorinated phthalic acid anhydride having at least 5:1 ratio of (4 chlorophthalic acid anhydride):(3-chlorophthalic acid anhydride). The reaction is preferably carried out at 275 to 325°C and the ratio of (chlorine):(phthalic acid anhydride) is preferably 1:1 to 2:1.
