PURPOSE: To allow an operator to perform precise photocomposing of document easily and typing work after confirming the same images as actually printed ones, by providing such a constitution that the same image of character pattern as in JUST photocomposing is reproduced on a CRT by using a confirmation blank typing device.

CONSTITUTION: When an operator performs JUST operation after a series of blank typing, an allocation arithmetic device 8 calculates the allocation amount so as to arrange characters within a space designated during blank typing. On the other hand, a re-editing device 11 tracks out addresses on a character information table and calculates the positions of the characters using the allocation amount per a character. And simultaneously, the ratio of the length of the JUST range to the length of a character line in blank typing is calculated, and the size of the characters during blank typing is multiplied by the ratio to determine the most suitable size of the characters. Those information are temporarily stored on the JUST table having the same format as the blank typing table. Thus, when the positions of the characters are determined, an arithmetic device 3 sends those information to a screen controller 5 and half-brilliance characters are rearranged on the CRT 10.
