To achieve a solar cell having higher conversion efficiency by providing a new photoelectric conversion element material.

A photoelectric conversion element includes a pair of electrodes (102, 106) and an active layer (104) existing between the electrodes and also includes a layer containing a benzodipyrrole compound represented by general formula (I) between the active layer (104) and one of the electrodes (102, 106).
