PURPOSE: To obtain a photographic element for a color diffusion transfer process having superior mordanting power and forming a color image with superior light resistance by incorporating a copolymer having units each contg. a specified quat. ammonium salt and units each contg. an imidazole group as a mordant.
CONSTITUTION: A copolymer consisting of units represented by formula I (where each of R1 and R5 is H, CH3 or C2H5; each of R2, R3 and R4 is ≤20C alkyl or ≤12C aralkyl; each of R6 and R7 is H, alkyl, aralkyl, hydroxyalkyl, cycloalkyl or cycloaralkyl; L is a bivalent combining group; (n) is 0 or 1; X- is a univalent anion; (a) is 10W90mol%; and (b) is 90W10mol%), e.g., a copolymer having units represented by formula II is incorporated tinto an image receiving layer as a mordant to obtain a photographic element for a color diffusion transfer process having a significant effect of preventing fading due to light and superior mordanting power.
