PURPOSE: To provide the improved retouching method for a dye image in the photographic element and to provide its material.

CONSTITUTION: The method of this invention is the method for retouching the dye image by selectively removing a part of the dye image from a dye forming coupler and a primary amine color developing agent from the exposed and developed photographic element, and the dye-forming coupler is characterized by that (a) the dye to be formed by oxidation coupling does not have an ionizable group, (b) this coupler has a structure, such as that introduced from 4 couplers each having a log P of 4-8, and (c) this coupler has at least coupling reactivity for enabling a maximum image density of at least 0.6 to be formed, and this method includes a process of bringing the dye image into contact with an aqueous acidic organic solvent solution for a sufficient time at a proper temperature in order to selectively dissolve and remove a part of the dye image from the photographic element. The photographic element suitable for such retouching contains novel pyrazolotriazole couplers.
