PURPOSE: To attain developement having super contrast and excellent dot property at a relatively low pH in a short time by incorporating a specific aryl hydrazide in an assistant layer in contact with a silver halide emulsifying agent layer on a supporting body.
CONSTITUTION: This photographic silver halide material is composed of a supporting body having at least one silver halide emulsion layer and at least one of another assistant layer in contact with the silver halide emulsion layer on the supporting body contains an aryl hydrazide containing a compound expressed by formula I. In formula I, Ar expresses a substituted phenyl group or a substituted or unsubstituted aryl group, G expresses a group of CO, SO, SO2, phosphonyl or the like, X+ expresses a residual group containing a cationic group having a quaternary nitrogen atom. And in formula I, each of R, R1 and R2 expresses hydrogen, a 1-6C alkyl or an alkylsufinyl group and A- is an anion. And the quaternary nitrogen atom is contained in imidazolium, imidazolinium, isoquinolinium or a quinolinium.
