In a hand shake correction mode, a digital camera detects camera shakes in a yaw direction and a pitch direction by a vibration detection sensor and inputs a camera shake detection signal to a camera shake correcting part. The camera shake correcting part calculates the moving direction and moving amount of a correction lens from the camera shake detection signal and a lens position of the correction lens. A control part moves the correction lens in a direction perpendicular to a photographing optical axis on the basis of the moving direction and the moving amount. When switching is made to a manual mode, the control part stops the correction lens at a lens position detected at that time. When switching is made to the camera shake correction mode again, the correction lens is moved on the basis of the calculated camera shake detection signal and lens position to perform camera shake correction.
