To provide a photomultiplier tube achieving great improvement of response time characteristics with a structure capable of producing a large volume.
The photomultiplier tube is provided with a closed vessel (100). The closed vessel (100) includes a hollow body part (120) extended along a tube axis (AX) and an incidence plane board (110). The incidence plane board (110) includes a light incident plane (110a) and a light-emitting plane (110b) with a photocathode (200) formed. Especially, the light-emitting plane (110b) is structured of a flat region (AR1) and a curved surface processing region (AR2) placed around a periphery of the flat region (AR1) and containing an edge part of the light-emitting plane (110b). Thus, since the light-emitting plane (110b) of the incidence plane board (110) adjusts an emitting angle of photoelectron from the photocathode (200) placed around its peripheral region, a surface shape in a peripheral region is intentionally changed. With this, variation of transit time of the photoelectron going toward a first dynode (DY1) from the photocathode (200) is effectively reduced without depending on an emitting position of the photoelectron.
