To provide a photomultiplier tube achieving great improvement of response time characteristics with a structure capable of producing a large volume.
The photomultiplier tube is provided with a closed vessel 100. In the closed vessel 100, a photocathode 200, a dynode unit 400 containing at least a dynode group of one system and a pair of insulation support members 410a, 410b for supporting the dynode group, and gain control units 430a, 430b are stored. The gain control units 430a, 430b are provided with insulation substrates 431. On the insulation substrate 431, an anode 432 as well as a dynode DY6 for control belonging to the dynode group and a last-stage dynode DY8 are integrally fixed. Thus, since the insulation substrate 431 is grasped by the pair of the insulation support members 410a, 410b, the anode 432, the dynode DY6 for control and the last-stage dynode DY8 structure a part of an electron multiplier 500.
