PURPOSE: To enable character types of different sizes to be set in a circle with high accuracy by employing a circular setting control logic with a host controller which seeks a reference coordinate and a central character position in a circular setting system based on setting instructions, then controlling a movement and rotation device using a control device in accordance with a command from the host controller.
CONSTITUTION: If instructions for circular setting of the type are given by a command input part 61, a host controller checks whether the typesetting should be performed in a circumferential direction (lateral set) or a radial direction(vertical set), and obtains a center radius sc1, a shift angle δ1 and a center angle from a present reference position radius Rso based on data such as Rso, new character width Qw1 and character height h1, if the typesetting is to be performed in the radial direction. Next, data is calculated within a circular setting system control logic provided in the host controller 62 to issue an activation command to a pulse motor control part 63. Subsequently, the character center position is moved from the present to a new position (Rsc1 position, θsc1 position). At the same time, an image rotation prism 78 is caused to rotate so that an image is directed to the circle center.
