PURPOSE: To reduce the load on the output process of the phrase information input and output device which sends and receives phrase information to and from an external device by inhibiting key information which is used for phrase performance from being outputted to the external device and outputting information instructing the phrase performance.

CONSTITUTION: The electronic musical instrument which generates a musical sound by selecting a musical sound generating means 15 for generating a phone musical sound corresponding to key information from a keyboard 10 or a phrase performance generating means 17 for generating a phrase musical sound composed of plural tones consists of an instructing means 12 which instructs normal performance or the phrase performance, a 1st assigning means 21 which assigns the musical sound generating means 15 or phrase performance means 17 for the key information from the keyboard 10 according to the instruction, and an output means 19 which outputs the key information outputted by the musical sound generating means 15 or information of phrase performance control 17, outputted by converting the key information by a phrase performance means 17 as specified, to the outside according to the assignment of the 1st assigning means 21.
