PURPOSE: To confirm a processed picture while executing a picture processing by dividing a picture area into multiple blocks of specified shapes, selecting one picture element in each block and executing a picture processing and displaying at each time of the selection.

CONSTITUTION: The internal of a picture is divided into rectangular blocks of 4 by 4 picture elements. In the case of processing a picture, the processing is executed on picture elements at positions mutually corresponded to in the individual blocks. For example, when a picture element position A is an object to be processed, the picture elements at position A in the individual blocks are successively processed. Corrected picture element data are created by selecting a picture element in each block and processing the picture data of the selected picture element. From these data, a picture is displayed by creating processed picture data expressing a picture in each block. Since the picture processing and displaying are executed as each picture element in each block is successively selected, the picture under processing is displayed while being updated so as to be improved in its resolution.
