A median value signal detection circuit 12 detects a median value signal of adjoining two frames in a video signal having a first frame frequency (60 Hz). A multiplier 13 multiplies the median value signal by a coefficient of less than 1. An interpolation circuit 15 interpolates the median value signal multiplied by the coefficient between the adjoining two frames, and outputs a video signal having a second frame frequency (120 Hz). The video signal having the second frame frequency is displayed on a hold type display panel which has a plurality of pixels arranged in matrix and performs display by holding an electric signal for a prescribed time period in each pixel.
