PURPOSE: To efficiently detect the picture distortion of a screen with the small amount of arithmetic and the small capacity of a memory by extracting a one-dimensional picture in one direction of an orthogonal directing from the center of a two-dimensional picture to a peripheral part from a two-dimensional picture to be obtained from a solid-state image pickup element and detecting the picture distortion of the source two-dimensional picture.
CONSTITUTION: A one-dimensional picture extracting means 11 is provided to extract the one-dimensional picture in the prescribed direction from the two-dimensional pictures to be obtained from solid-state image pickup elements 4R, 4G and 4B and a picture distortion detecting means 13 is provided to detect the picture distortion of the two-dimensional picture including the one- dimensional picture based on the extracted one-dimensional picture. Therefore, the picture distortion in the two-dimensional pictures of the solid-state image pickup elements 4R, 4G and 4B can be detected from the one-dimensional picture. Thus, the picture distortion and registration deviation to be generated at an image pickup device such as a solid-state image pickup element television camera, etc., can be efficiently detected.
