PURPOSE: To permit the handling of remaining copying papers to be continued by a method wherein, upon detection by a staple detecting means of the exhaustion of staples from a stapling part in the course of handling of a predetermined number of copying paper, a control means permits a series of predetermined handling to be performed without effecting the staple handling.
CONSTITUTION: Upon detection of a signal value of 1 of staple-on-signal, CPU 311 confirms a flag indicated when staples in a stapler S are used up. If the flag is zero, the CPU confirms an output signal from a staple existence checking sensor 211 and, when the sensor 211 is off (the staples are used up), it sends to a main body 301 a signal to that effect, informs that the staples need to be replenished by an indicator provided in the main body 301 or an after- treatment device 303 or displays at what number of copying paper the stapling has stopped. The flag indicating the exhaustion of the staples is then set at 1 and a bundle of the recording papers stacked on a staple tray is carried into a paper discharge tray 53.
