PURPOSE: To obtain a picture output whose picture quality is improved by disposing a pulse position changing device which divides a signal which is pulse width-modulated into a prescribed number and changes positions of respective divided signals in one picture element in correspondence with the information of a multilevel input.

CONSTITUTION: An input signal 100 from an external device is inputted with a horizontal synchronizing signal 107 as a multilevel signal. The signal 100 is latched 6 and supplied to CPU 18 and a selector 5. The output is transmitted to RAM 36. The control of RAM 36 is that it can freely read and write when the output is from CPU 1 and writing is prohibited when a bit image is read by the signal 100. The bit image read from RAM 36 is loaded on a shift register 8, and outputted in serial by a crystal oscillation frequency f0 clock from a phase synchronizing circuit 16. In such a case, the shift register 8 divides the length of one picture element into the prescribed number by a frequency f0 as the pulse position changing device, and furthermore changes the position of a pulse and prevents a black level from being concentrated on the specified position.
