PURPOSE: To record a tilted image onto a picture recording medium at all times as a horizontal picture by providing a level detector and a correction section correcting a tilt angle attended with the result of the detector.

CONSTITUTION: The device is provided with a horizontal level detector 2 to record a tilted image onto a recording medium as a horizontal picture at pickup of a picture and a correction section 3 correcting the tilt angle attended therewith. Thus, even when a pickup device main body 1 is tilted as shown in figure, the horizontal level detector 2 detects the horizontal level and the correction section 3 corrects the angle attended therewith. Thus, horizontal pickup is always attained, the operation of the pickup device is facilitated and a beautiful picture is picked up.
