PURPOSE: To add easily a character or symbol information required for picture information by selecting optional added information from plural stored additional information and adding it to the picture information.

CONSTITUTION: When an abbreviation code is inputted, the 2nd abbreviation corresponding to an input code is selected from the 2nd memory 20, set to a buffer memory 11 together with the 1st abbreviation of the 1st memory 19 and an abbreviation flag is set. When the transmission key is depressed, whether or not the abbreviation flag is set is discriminated and when it is set, the 1st and 2nd abbreviation codes set in the buffer memory 11 are inputted to a character generating section 12, which writes alternately a dot pattern corresponding to a character code in the buffer memory 11 to a line memory 13 or 14 for one line's share. When the data for one line's share is arranged in the line memory 13 or 14, a sequential coding signal 15 applies coding.
