The piezoelectric element includes: a piezoelectric body 30; electrodes 20 and 40 applying an electric field to the piezoelectric body 30 in a predetermined direction; and a humidity holding means 210. The humidity holding means 210 includes: a piezoelectric body storage chamber 212 storing the piezoelectric body 30; a desiccant storage chamber 220 communicating with the piezoelectric body storage chamber 212 and storing a desiccant 218; an opening and closing valve 216 opening and closing the portion between the piezoelectric body storage chamber 212 and the desiccant storage chamber 218; and a humidity detecting means 214 measuring the humidity of the piezoelectric body storage chamber 212. The opening and closing valve 216 is adjusted to keep the humidity detected by the humidity detecting means 214 constant.
