PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the dispersion of a compressed load by providing a pressurizing piston by which the compressed load is applied to a piezoelectric actuator by fuel pressure introduced to a nozzle opening, and applying voltage to the piezoelectric actuator on condition that the fuel pressure applied in this pressurizing piston exceeds a predetermined value and increased.
SOLUTION: When a fuel injection valve 7 is operated to be opened, each piezoelectric element 13 is contracted, and a pressurizing piston 11 is moved in association with the contraction of each piezoelectric element 13 so as to lower the pressure of a back pressure chamber 8. Hereby, pressure difference is generated between the back pressure chamber 8 and a fuel pressure chamber 3. By this pressure difference, a needle valve 2 opens a nozzle opening 1b against a coil spring 4, and high pressure fuel introduced to the fuel pressure chamber 3 is ejected from the nozzle opening 1b. Next, when the fuel injection valve 7 is operated to be closed, each piezoelectric element 13 is extended, the pressure of the back pressure chamber 8 is increased by moving the pressurizing piston 11, the needle valve 2 is moved by pressure difference between the back pressure chamber 8 and the fuel pressure chamber 3 and the energization force of the coil spring 4 and seated on the seat part of a nozzle body 1, and fuel injection is stopped.
